Privacy Policy

fewso is built to collect as little about you as possible. This policy explains exactly what we store, why, and the control you have over it.

Last updated · 25 May 2026

fewso (“fewso”, “we”, “us”) is a slow photo journal built and operated by an independent developer based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We are the data controller for the personal data described below. You can reach us about anything in this policy at [email protected], or through our contact form.

Our privacy principles

  • No advertising. We don't run ads and we have no advertising business model.
  • No selling your data. We never sell or rent your personal data.
  • No cross-app tracking.fewso doesn't use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
  • Private by default. Your weeks are yours; moments are shared only with the people you choose.
  • Data minimisation. We ask for the few things we need to run the app, and nothing more.

Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account we store a username (your @handle), a display name, and an email address — or, if you use Sign in with Apple, the identifier Apple provides and any relay email you allow. We use this to identify your account, let friends find you, and help you recover access.

Content you create

The photos and videos you capture, their dates and the day and week they belong to, captions, reactions, comments, and the shared albums you create or join. This is the heart of fewso, and it stays private to you and the circle you share it with.

Your circle

The connections you make — the friends you add and who adds you — so we can deliver shared moments and album invitations.

Technical & diagnostic data

Basic device and app information (device model, operating-system version, app version, language) and crash and diagnostic logs. We use these to keep the app working and fix bugs.

What we don't collect

  • Your contacts or address book. fewso never scans or uploads your contacts.
  • Your phone number.We don't require it.
  • Precise location.fewso doesn't request location access.
  • Advertising identifiers (IDFA).There's no ad tracking, so there's no App Tracking Transparency prompt.

How we use your data

  • Provide and sync the service — store your weeks and deliver moments to your circle.
  • Send the notifications you've enabled (a friend showed up, an album invite, your Sunday recap).
  • Keep fewso safe — prevent abuse and spam, and respond to reports.
  • Fix and improve the app using aggregate, non-identifying diagnostics.
  • Meet our legal obligations.

We do not use your photos, videos, or messages to train AI models, and we do not analyse your content for advertising.

If you're in the EEA or UK, we process your data on these bases:

  • Contract — to provide the account and features you ask for.
  • Consent — for optional things like push notifications and access to your camera or photo library. You can withdraw consent any time in iOS Settings.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep fewso secure and prevent abuse.
  • Legal obligation — where the law requires us to retain or disclose information.

How your content is shared

fewso has no public feed, no discover tab, and no follower counts. Content you create is visible only to:

  • you,
  • the friends in your circle you share a week or moment with, and
  • the members of a shared album you add to.

We don't share your content with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose information if required by valid legal process, or where necessary to protect the safety of people using fewso.

App permissions

fewso asks only for the permissions its features need — camera, microphone, photo library, and notifications. Each is explained when it is requested, and optional ones can be declined or revoked in iOS Settings. See the Permissions page for details.

Storage & retention

Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure. We keep your content for as long as your account is active. When you delete a moment it is removed from your account; when you delete your account we erase your personal data as described in Account & data deletion, subject to short technical backup windows and any retention the law requires.

Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and regular updates. No online service can promise perfect security, but we work to hold your moments to a high standard, and we will notify you and the relevant authority of a qualifying data breach as required by law.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, send us a message through our contact form. You can also delete most of your data yourself in the app. If you're in the EEA, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority — in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Account & data deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account. See Account & data deletion for what is removed and how long it takes.

Children

fewso is not intended for children under 13, and you must meet the minimum age of digital consent in your country to use it. If we learn we have collected data from a child below that age, we will delete it.

International transfers

We are based in the EU and prefer to keep data there. Where data is processed outside the EEA by a service provider, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run fewso — for cloud hosting and storage, and for delivering push notifications (the Apple Push Notification service). They process data only on our instructions. We do not use advertising or ad-analytics providers.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we'll update this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the app. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version.
